Meditation Circles
These Circles are helpful to many groups.
Meditation Circles
Meditation Circles are comprised of individuals, at least three persons, who engage in a meditation practice together.
Meditation Circles can be self-organized or facilitated by a meditation guide.
The Circles may be virtual or in person.
Meditation Circles can also be comprised of work teams, leadership teams, all of whom are working towards a common purpose or vision.
The Circles may be comprised of individuals with a common interest or talent, such as painters or writers who meditate together. After a guided meditation they spend time creating while in a state of relaxation and focus. For example: “Gods and Goddesses: Pathways to Creativity” is a Meditation Circle begun over 20 years ago with individuals wanting to write in the company of others. These circles are guided by Ginny Oehler. The participants are led through relaxation exercises and a guided visualization of a chosen god or goddess. After the meditation, participants write and create a spontaneous piece of poetry or prose that is shared with the other writers. The writers may then organize their work for public sharing and publication.
Meditation Circles may be formed with specific populations such as older adults, children, sports teams, individuals in organizations such as hospitals or schools. They may be formed with persons with similar health concerns or areas of interest. Meditation is guided with the goal of engaging the power of each individual’s energies to “lift up” the group as a whole.
Meditation Circles may be facilitated by a meditation coach, a yoga instructor or someone trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction ( MBSR). Meditation Circles can be guided by trained teachers or others trained in the practice of meditation.
